[ARCHIVED] Fatal Pedestrian Accident

A Midland man was declared deceased on scene after a fatal pedestrian accident Monday evening.

Midland Police Department officers responded to a pedestrian accident in the 200 block of North A Street at approximately 6:46 p.m. on Monday. First responders found victim George Huffman Landreth, 86, lying in the outside southbound lane of A Street. Huffman had been walking west across A Street toward First Presbyterian Church at the time of the accident. He was declared deceased on scene.

Witnesses told officers that the vehicle that struck Landreth, a dark-colored Oldsmobile driven by 20-year-old James Overton, had been headed south on A Street. Overton fled the scene, driving south and then west on Wall Street. Overton was located a short time later at the 7-11 convenience store located at Wall Street and O Street.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
