The City of Midland held a Groundbreaking Ceremony today, Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 2 p.m. The ceremony took place at the Animal Services Facility located at 1200 N. Fairgrounds Rd., Midland, Texas 79706.

Officials with the city, county and Texas Tech Animal Services helped kick off this project. Texas Tech Animal Services helped the City of Midland with the design and suggested programs. The new facility is 18,400 square feet with over 11,000 square feet designated for kennel space and a spay/neuter clinic. The new facility will also include 100% outside air exchanges and no cross contamination of air, natural daylight in every animal room, meet and greet rooms, medical room and many other state-of-the-art amenities. The proposed facility will allow the City to better meet the current and future needs of our community.

The City of Midland would like to thank Midland County for their donation of $1 million as well as Vandergriff Group Architects and the Hancock Group for their donations to make this project happen.

The construction for the new Animal Shelter was awarded to Henthorn Commercial of Lubbock, Texas and is set to be completed in the Spring of 2021 for a total of $8,958,400.00.
