How prepared are you for this year's upcoming storm season? Local emergency management agencies will help you better anticipate natural disasters at an upcoming public meeting to kick off its "Ready Midland" campaign.
Local emergency management agency personnel will be available from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4 in the Carrasco Room at Midland College (3600 N. Garfield) to help citizens prepare for the upcoming storm season. The public is welcome to come and go during the event to meet with various local agencies on a one-on-one basis.
Citizens in attendance will be able to speak directly with emergency management personnel from the City of Midland, Midland County, American Red Cross Permian Basin Chapter, the National Weather Service Midland/Odessa and more.
"The goal is to share information with the public as to how we all prepare for events that might wreak havoc on our community, and allow citizens to ask questions as to better prepare themselves for future potential disasters," said Emergency Management Coordinator Patrick Repman of the Midland Fire Department.
City officials will be available to explain the City of Midland's ongoing evolution toward a multi-layered emergency notification plan that includes phone calls, text alerts, and social media in addition to outdoor warning sirens. City staff will be on hand to help citizens sign up for phone alerts through www.midlandtexas.gov's "My Alerts" module.
The meeting will launch the City's "Ready Midland" campaign, which aims to inform and equip Midlanders in order to be better prepared for potential disasters in our community.
