[ARCHIVED] Aggravated Robbery

Police are searching for a suspect in an aggravated robbery that took place over the weekend.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of an accident involving a pedestrian at approximately 12:27 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of North Main Street. Jorge Baltier, 18, was found lying on the street and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

It was discovered that the incident stemmed from a theft that took place in the 100 block of West Oak Avenue, when a suspect took $60 from Jessieca Grones, 21, who was trying to buy a cell phone from the suspect. The suspect pushed Grones and fled the scene with the cell phone and money in a recent model of a white Cadillac CTS.

Baltier attempted to stop the suspect by jumping on the hood of the suspect's vehicle and was forced off the vehicle at the spot where he was found by officials.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set, 5-foot-7 Hispanic male in his mid-twenties.

With the assistance of local media, Midland police were able to locate
another suspect involved in a separate aggravated robbery case that happened during the weekend.

At approximately 6:36 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to My Community Federal Credit Union located at 600 W. Louisiana Ave. in reference to an aggravated robbery. Officers met with the victim, who stated that he drove up to the ATM at the bank, put his card into the machine, and withdrew $40. As he was in the middle of this transaction, the suspect approached the victim's car from behind and displayed a box cutter in the victim's direction, demanding the money. The victim gave the suspect the $40 and drove away as the suspect unsuccessfully attempted to retrieve more money from the ATM.

With assistance from local media, the suspect in this case was identified as 40-year-old Fred Salinas. He was located at his workplace last night. Salinas gave a partial confession to the crime and was arrested for aggravated robbery.
