The victim of a pedestrian accident was pronounced deceased early Monday morning.
Charles Corey, 70, of Midland, was transported in critical condition to Midland Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon after being struck by a Ford Mustang while he was operating an electric scooter. He died of his injuries early Monday morning.
Midland Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene of the accident at approximately 1:35 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of South Rankin Highway. The investigation into the accident revealed that 20-year-old Rupertino Reyes, of Midland, was exiting the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts onto Rankin Highway in a Ford Mustang when his vehicle struck Corey, who was traveling southbound on an electric scooter along a sidewalk that crossed the parking lot exit.
Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the collision at this time, and the investigation into the crash continues. Next of kin have been notified.
