[ARCHIVED] Midland Rain Event Facts

Midland experienced a significant rain event Wednesday evening. Following is information on damage within the city and county from Wednesday:

Total power outages: 86 affecting approximately 4,300 people

Calls regarding vehicles submerged in water: 30

Calls regarding stalled or flooded vehicles: 12

City first responders answered eight fire or pole issue calls, 19 calls about fallen power lines, and one fence fire.

County officials reported that five RV trailers were damaged with no related injuries; one mobile home damaged with the three occupants sent to the hospital; one “gooseneck” trail separated from truck; and 74 damaged electric poles.

Standard low water crossings were barricaded Wednesday evening and there were some reports of wind and lightning damage in area, such as fallen trees and antennas. Midland dispatch received reports of cell tower outages and two City of Midland wireless sites were disrupted by the storm. As of Thursday at 10 a.m., there were 17 remaining outages affecting approximately 358 people. The Oncor Storm Center website can be consulted regarding current power outages, if any. Low water crossings throughout the city remained blocked through Thursday.

City officials ask that residents cleaning up storm debris do not place items or yard waste in their alley, but take those items to the Citizens Collection Station located at 4100 Smith Road, located north of ClayDesta just past the post office.
