Carl Wiley

A manhunt is underway near Sanderson following a fatal shooting in Midland Saturday evening.

Officers are searching for 48-year-old Carl Wayne Wiley, who fled the scene of a shooting in the 500 block of S. Clay on Saturday. Officers were called out to the location at approximately 8:45 p.m. in reference to the shooting and found two gunshot victims. Latonya Lucille Anders, 41, was pronounced deceased on scene and 52-year-old Curtis Ray Stinnett was transported with life-threatening injuries to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Two warrants for Wiley’s arrest were issued for murder and attempted murder.

Witnesses said that Wiley left the scene in a white Ford truck, and it was later discovered that Wiley fled Midland and was located by Border Patrol agents in Sanderson. Wiley led Border Patrol and local law enforcement on a brief vehicle pursuit before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot near a ranch approximately 9 miles west of Sanderson. A massive manhunt is underway for Wiley in that region at this time and he is being considered as armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Midland Police Department at 432-685-7108.
