The Midland Police Department will host an appreciation party for National Night Out block captains from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22 at First United Methodist Church.
Block captains are those who have chosen to lead a neighborhood block party for this year’s National Night Out, which will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The Midland Police Department asks the community to participate in National Night Out by locking their doors, turning on outside lights and spending the evening outside with neighbors and public safety employees. Many neighborhoods throughout Midland will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from the police, flashlight walks and more.
There’s still time to register a neighborhood party by the July 28 deadline, and potential block captains are invited to attend the appreciation party Tuesday evening. Citizens can call and register their block party today by calling Jessica Rodriguez with the MPD Community Relations Unit at 432-685-7582.
National Night Out is a nationwide crime prevention event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back against crime.
