[ARCHIVED] Midland man killed in fatal truck-train accident

A Midland man was pronounced deceased on scene after his truck collided with a moving train Sunday evening.

Filiberto Baeza, 43, was traveling northbound on Terrell Street in a red Ford F-250 at approximately 7:58 p.m. when he ran through the crossing guard arms near Industrial Avenue and was struck by a westbound train. The crossing arms were horizontal and the red emergency lights were flashing at the time of the crash.

Baeza was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Alcohol is being considered as a possible factor in the incident, and the investigation continues. Next of kin has been notified.
