[ARCHIVED] Stop signs to be installed at Midkiff and I-20 this weekend

The City of Midland will install all-way stop signs along Midkiff Road where it intersects with the north and south service roads of Interstate 20 on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Forcing traffic to stop in each direction at these intersections will help to reduce excessive delays for motorists on the service roads during peak periods and will improve safety for all motorists using these intersections.

The all-way stop signs, which were approved by the Midland City Council on Sept. 23, are an interim measure that the City is implementing to address the immediate traffic congestion and safety concerns while awaiting the funding for more significant improvements. Regional planning by the Midland Odessa Transportation Organization Metropolitan Planning Organization (MOTOR MPO) indicates that the Texas Department of Transportation is currently working to identify funding for significant improvements to this interchange.

Drivers are advised to avoid this interchange throughout the day on Saturday, Oct. 25 due to intermittent lane closures while City crews install new signs and markings. Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey any warning signs or flaggers that may be in the work area.
