The Midland Fire Department's new station will officially open its doors at 4501 Sinclair Ave. after a grand opening ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Five firefighters will initially staff Fire Station 10, which is located on Sinclair Avenue just west of Midland Drive, with an engine and an ambulance ready to respond to calls in the new district.
The station, which was designed by Parkhill, Smith and Cooper and constructed by J.C. Roberts Construction Co., has nine bedrooms, a library, fitness room, and air fill station in approximately 12,000 square feet. Various rescue training props were also built into the design of the building to help firefighters practice life-saving techniques when they're not on calls.
Fire Station 10 will help the department respond more efficiently to calls in one of the fastest-growing areas of Midland, in addition to covering calls along highways. Rather than placing the station on property already owned by the City, as is traditionally the case, staff worked with a generous local landowner to secure a location where officials saw the greatest need.
