UPDATED 1/5: The Beal Park temporary drop-off location for tree limbs in the city of Midland is now full. Citizens and contractors are asked to use the nearby Scharbauer Sports Complex at this time.
The City of Midland is also allowing citizens to split and haul firewood from the drop-off locations for free.
UPDATED 1/4: Another 24/7 temporary drop-off location for tree limbs in the city of Midland has been opened at the Scharbauer Sports Complex, just south of Security Bank Ballpark in the gravel parking area.
Contractors are able to use Hogan Park and the Scharbauer Sports Complex temporary drop-off locations on Monday, Jan. 5 through Sunday, Jan. 11 to dispose of tree limbs.
After that time, contractors will still be able to use the city landfill with waived fees for storm-related debris.
ORIGINAL POST: The City of Midland is providing several drop-off locations for citizens to dispose of brush, limbs and trees brought down by icy conditions.
Two temporary drop-off sites will be open 24 hours per day, seven days per week until cleanup efforts are done. They are located at Hogan Park, 1201 E. Wadley Ave., in the parking lot south of Christensen Stadium and east of the soccer fields, and Beal Park, 5200 W. Wall St., in the parking lot east of the skate park.
Citizens may also drop off storm debris during regular business hours at the Citizen Collection Station, located at 4100 Smith Rd., or the City of Midland Landfill, 7901 Garden City Highway. Any charges for tree limb disposal will be waived during cleanup from this ice storm.
The City of Midland continues to work closely with Midland Tree Keepers and Oncor to encourage safe practices in cleanup efforts. Citizens are urged to Oncor directly if a tree limb or other object has come in contact with power lines instead of attempting to clear the debris themselves. City crews continue to work in the public right-of-way to remove limbs and trees that are causing safety or transportation issues.
City officials have set up a hotline at 432-685-7298 for assistance in removing tree limbs that have fallen into alleyways through 6 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Citizens are reminded not to throw debris in their alleyway or near dumpsters. Debris will not get picked up if placed by the dumpster and could result in a fine.
