[ARCHIVED] Explosion causes fire at Midland office

Witnesses reported an explosion before a commercial building in Midland was significantly damaged by flames and smoke late Friday afternoon.

About a dozen Midland Fire Department units responded to the fire in the 800 block of South Midkiff Road at around 4 p.m. Friday. The Midland Police Department assisted in closing several nearby streets due to the unknown cause of the exposion as firefighters battled the flames to avoid the fire spreading to a nearby gas station and car wash.

The building had several components, including office and storage space. No one was in the structure at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown and the investigation continues.
