[ARCHIVED] Parks and Recreation to begin cleanup efforts in Midland parks

As cleanup efforts from the early January ice storms wind down, the Midland Parks and Recreation Division is surveying the damage done to Midland parks.

Several tree limbs have fallen around the city of Midland, and the parks are no exception. Several trees will need be removed, and many others lost limbs. Parks and Recreation employees have been devoted full-time to assisting with city-wide cleanup efforts, and will begin to clear parks of fallen limbs after the temporary drop-off locations for citizens close on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Many residents are now stepping in to help out the City of Midland after employees worked around the clock to help clean up the city. An ROTC group from Midland High School has volunteered to clean up Cowden, Hill, and Grafa Parks Saturday morning.

Citizens who are also looking for other ways to help the Parks and Recreation Division can do so by making a contribution to the Parks & Recreation Endowment Fund. The fund is in place to help provide long-term maintenance and improvements to the City of Midland's park system.

All contributions made through Oct. 15 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 through a challenge grant made from the family of Javaid Anwar. Contributions can be made online by visiting www.supportmidlandparks.com.
