[ARCHIVED] One dead, one arrested in hotel stabbing

A Midland man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of another individual who lived nearby.
Midland Police Department responded at approximately 10:44 a.m. Tuesday to reports by staff at Americas Best Value Inn of an unconscious individual at the hotel, which is located in the 3600 block of Bankhead Highway. Upon arrival, Midland Police Department officers found 36-year-old Dedrick Lewis deceased with multiple apparent stab wounds. The room he was found in was said to be his residence.

Edward Briceno, 43, who was also a resident of the motel, was identified as a suspect in the initial investigation and subsequently arrested.

Lewis' body will be sent to Tarrant County for autopsy and the investigation into the incident continues. Next of kin has been notified.
