[ARCHIVED] Recycle Phone Books - Help Local Schools

It's time for residents of Midland to take their old phone book directories to area schools to be recycled and help the three top schools win prize money!

Permian Basin Area Wide Phone Book, the City of Midland, Butts Recycling and Keep Midland Beautiful are encouraging everyone to discard outdated phone books at one of nine participating schools during the annual Permian Basin Area Wide Phone Book Recycling Contest now through the end of the school day on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Schools participating in this year's event are: Carver, Crocket, Fannin, Greathouse, Jones, Parker, Santa Rita, Travis, and Washington.

The school collecting the most pounds of old phone books will win $500. The second place school receives $300 and third place school $200.

This is a hands-on activity that dramatically improves Midland by saving room in our landfill and reducing waste by recycling. Many products are made from recycled paper, like paper towels, animal bedding, cereal boxes, roofing shingles and compost. The nine participating schools are working together to create a healthier, cleaner and safer environment across the Permian Basin.
