[ARCHIVED] Major Accident

An intersection is without traffic signals after an accident damaged a signal box Sunday evening.

The City of Midland Transportation Division has placed stop signs at the intersection of Longview Avenue and Rankin Highway while they work to restore the signal cabinet that was hit during a two-vehicle accident at approximately 7:51 p.m. on Sunday.

The driver of a 2000 Ford Expedition was headed northbound on Rankin Highway when the vehicle collided with a southbound 2003 Nissan Frontier as it attempted to take a left turn to head eastbound on Longview Avenue. The driver of the Frontier had a green arrow at the time of the turn while the driver of the Expedition had a red light. The driver of the Expedition, Mark Winde (DOB 12/31/82), was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The collision caused the Expedition to roll over and strike the cabinet box that controls the signals at the intersection. The repair of the box is expected to take several days. Neither driver was transported to the hospital as a result of the accident.
