[ARCHIVED] MPD arrests man for impersonating an officer

A Midland man was arrested Monday afternoon on a charge of impersonating a police officer.

The Midland Police Department took Oscar Medrano Natividad, 28, into custody after introducing himself as an officer to an individual and asking for a ride to his vehicle.

A man reported in May that he was approached by Natividad while sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of his apartment complex. Natividad identified himself as "Sgt. Garcia" and asked the man to present an identification card. The man handed over his driver’s license and asked Natividad to present official law enforcement credentials. Natividad stated his credentials were in his patrol truck and then asked the man for a ride to the front of the complex where the truck was parked. The complainant obliged, but no patrol truck was located. The man eventually called police due to Natividad’s nervous demeanor. Almost simultaneously, MPD received a call from a man stating he could not locate his truck.

Detectives were able to identify Natividad through the phone number he used to contact authorities and he was also identified in a photo line-up. Natividad was located and booked into the Midland County Detention Center.
