[ARCHIVED] Midland man killed in one-vehicle accident

A Midland man was declared deceased after his vehicle struck a traffic signal pole on Midkiff Road early Monday morning.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to the fatal crash at approximately 12:35 a.m. Monday on Midkiff Road near the Loop 250 south service road. Leonel Galindo, 24, was the lone occupant in the signal-vehicle accident involving his 2001 Honda Civic.

The investigation into the accident revealed that Galindo was headed northbound on Midkiff Road when he locked the car's brakes, slid through the intersection and collided with a traffic signal pole. Officers believe the light was red at the time of the crash, and alcohol and speed are being investigated as factors in the collision.

Next of kin has been notified and the investigation continues.
