[ARCHIVED] Downtown demolition to begin week of Aug. 10

The face of downtown Midland will continue to transform with demolition starting on vacant, City of Midland-owned properties next week.

The Mid-America Building (310 W. Illinois Ave.), Midland Executive Center (301 N. Colorado St.) and the previous County Courthouse located along Wall Street will be demolished one-at-a-time by contractor Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition LLC of Hutchins in the coming months. Demolition is scheduled to first begin on the Mid-America Building starting Aug. 10 and move to the adjacent Midland Executive Center the weekend of Aug. 21.

Demolition is expected to take place last at the previous County Courthouse property in mid- to late-September.

To allow for demolition of the Midland Executive Center, which is located along Big Spring Street, multiple lanes will be closed and traffic will be restricted on northbound Big Spring Street over the weekend of Aug. 21. The closures will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21 and reopen Monday, Aug. 24 at 5 a.m. Motorists are advised to expect delays and drive with caution around the work area.

Though demolition can be a messy and disruptive process by nature, the contractor and City of Midland will work together to mitigate debris, trash, dust and other nuisances as much as possible.
