[ARCHIVED] Traffic alerts and lane closures

Traffic Signal Upgrades:

The City will be continuing the installation of flashing yellow arrow left-turn displays at traffic signals on the west side of Midland. The intersections remaining to be upgraded include those along Midkiff Road from Wadley Avenue to Wall Street.

While equipment and cabling are being updated, traffic signals will be out of service. Drivers are reminded that dark or all-red flashing signals must be treated as all-way stop intersections according to state law.

Additional information about flashing yellow arrow displays is available on the City’s website:

Illinois Avenue at Midland Memorial Hospital:

Contractors for the City of Midland will be upgrading the pedestrian crossing on Illinois Avenue at Midland Memorial Hospital, just east of Andrews Highway, beginning on Thursday, March 17th. The work will involve reconstruction of sidewalk and the center median, replacement of the flashing warning lights, and repaving of Illinois Avenue from Andrews Highway to N Street. The crosswalk will be closed during the construction, and hospital visitors and staff are advised to cross at the traffic signal at Andrews Highway if using the south entrance to the hospital.

Fairgrounds Road Widening Project:

The contractor working for TxDOT on the Fairgrounds Road Widening Project will be performing work on the north end of the project. Traffic is currently constrained to one-way operation, from LP 250 to Pecan Street, throughout the length of the project. A detour is in place for northbound traffic.

Utility Extension Program:

The contractor working for the City of Midland on the Utility Extension Program project will be performing work on the east half of Main Street from Illinois Avenue north to Tennessee Avenue, as well as a short portion of Tennessee Avenue immediately west of Main Street. During construction the east half of Main Street will be closed and temporary closures of the entire street or at the intersections with Illinois Avenue, Ohio Avenue, and Tennessee Avenue may occur.

The contractor will also be performing work in the area of Fairgrounds Road from the intersection with Pine Avenue and extending north to the intersection with Cynthia Avenue. During construction, there may be temporary lane closures along Fairgrounds Road, Pine Avenue, and Cynthia Avenue.

The contractor will also be performing work in the area of Florida Avenue (Garden City Highway) approximately 600-ft west of the intersection with Fairgrounds Road. During construction, there will be lane closures with traffic being diverted to one half of the street while construction takes place on the other half. There may also be other temporary lane closures due.

Midkiff Road to Horseshoe Arena Waterline Extension Project:

The contractor working for the City of Midland on the Midkiff Road to Horseshoe Arena Waterline Extension Project will be performing work in the area of the intersection of Midkiff Road and Industrial Avenue. During construction, several sections of south Midkiff Road may be reduced by one or more lanes or the intersection may be partially closed while the work is completed.

TxDOT: I-20 Project will reconfigure ramps serving West Loop 250:

A project to reconfigure Interstate 20 ramps that service West Loop 250 and rebuild frontage roads is underway. The nearly year-long project will have several traffic pattern changes during the course of construction. The speed limit in the 1.4-mile area will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. Concrete traffic barriers will be in place in part of the work zone to help protect work crews. All lanes will be open for the majority of the project.

TxDOT: Traffic Signal Installation on FM 1788:

A project to install traffic signals on FM 1788 just north and south of Business Interstate 20 in Midland County is underway. Traffic signals will be put in at both Younger Road and County Road 127. Lanes will be kept open as much as possible, but delays and detours will happen at times. Both traffic signals will include arrows for left turn lanes. Work will be done simultaneously at both locations.

TxDOT: Traffic Signal Repair on West Loop 250 and I-20:

A traffic signal on the south service road of Interstate 20 at West Loop 250 in Midland has a defect in its infrastructure and will be taken down as a safety precaution. Both intersections of West Loop 250 and the I-20 service roads will be put in a four-way stop mode until further notice. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
