[ARCHIVED] National Night Out begins with kick-off party on Oct. 6

This year's National Night Out will kick off with a party beginning at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the Cimarex Energy Pavilion located next to Security Bank Ballpark.

MPD and the Midland Fire Department will be present to answer questions and offer tours of fleet vehicles including MPD's armored vehicle used in tactical operations. Food and drinks will also be available.

The Midland Police Department asks residents to participate in National Night Out every year by locking their doors, turning on outside lights and spending the evening outside with neighbors and public safety employees. More than 70 neighborhoods throughout Midland have signed up this year to host a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from the police and firefighters, and more.

National Night Out is a nationwide crime prevention event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back against crime. Midland police officers will visit each block party to meet with residents and discuss ways to keep their community safe.
