[ARCHIVED] MPD releases list of FAQs about open carry law

The Midland Police Department has created a list of frequently asked questions to help prepare the community for the beginning for the state's new open carry law.

House Bill 910, which will become effective on Jan. 1, 2016, eliminates the distinction between concealed and open carry, creating a “license to carry a handgun.” A person with a current concealed handgun license, or a person who obtains the new “license to carry a handgun,” can carry a handgun in a concealed manner or openly in a belt or shoulder holster.

The FAQ list is intended to prepare citizens to know when an openly carried handgun is cause for concern and for businesses to begin research on how the new law will affect them. The Midland Police Department is committed to working closely with citizens and license holders to make the transition to this new law as smooth as possible.
