[ARCHIVED] New westbound flight from Midland to begin on Thursday

American Airlines begins westbound service from Midland on a new flight to Phoenix starting March 3.

The new service will operate daily, with flights from the Midland International Air & Space Port leaving at 12:45 p.m. on a 79-seat regional jet.

American's new service is a catalyst for the airport's future growth, as well as a way to enhance travel and business opportunities for Midland and nearby communities. The other two flights traveling west and north from Midland at this time are offered by United to Denver, and by Southwest to Las Vegas.

"MAF welcomes American Airlines' service to Phoenix," said Director of Airports Justine Ruff. "Through this new hub in Phoenix, customers will have simpler access to destinations to the west and beyond."

The inaugural flight will be celebrated with golf activities and refreshments in the gate area. Travelers and representatives from the City of Midland, Midland Chamber and American Airlines will be invited to participate in a chipping contest, with the ability for ticketed passengers on the Phoenix flight to win prizes.
