The City of Midland is reminding motorists to be on the lookout for school zones in effect as local schools begin their academic calendars.
Classes at St. Ann's School and Midland Christian School began Monday, Aug. 15, and Midland Charter Academy and Trinity School will start on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The first day of classes for Hillander School and Midland Independent School District will be Monday, Aug. 22.
Motorists are urged to obey the school zone signs as speed limits can vary. Speeding through a school zone can result in up to a $200 citation. Drivers are also prohibited from using handheld devices for phone calls and texting when in an active school zone.
