[ARCHIVED] Midland police will check child safety seats Sept. 19 to 23

The Midland Police Department will check child safety seats and replace a limited number of currently used units that are expired, damaged, or unsuitable during Child Passenger Safety Week.

Child Passenger Safety Week was created to remind parents and caregivers to properly use and install child safety seats. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 59 percent of car seats are misused, and over one-third of children killed in car crashes were unrestrained during a crash.

MPD’s certified passenger safety technicians will check child safety seats to ensure they are installed correctly and are the correct seat for the child’s age and size. MPD has a limited number of child safety seats to replace currently used units that may be expired, damaged, or unsuitable for the child’s age and size that were provided by THHS and Evenflo.

To schedule an appointment with a technician, please call 432-685-7105. Appointments will be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Sept. 19 to 23. Parents and caregivers can view more information on car seat safety at www.safercar.gov/parents.
