[ARCHIVED] Firefighters installing free smoke detectors in east Midland

The Midland Fire Department Community Risk Reduction Program is looking to help residents in east Midland by installing donated smoke detectors at no cost by appointment and during a blitz on Nov. 10.

A smoke detector installation "blitz" will take place in the area east of A Street, north of Highway 80, and south of Wadley Avenue from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. This area has been determined as one of Midland's highest-risk areas for fire incidents through a review of data over the last three years. Firefighters can provide a new smoke detector in the case an old one is not working, or provide additional smoke detectors in homes that are not fully covered by existing detectors in case of a fire incident.

Midlanders are encouraged to refer acquaintances in need of a smoke detector in this area to the Midland Fire Department. Fire officials and volunteers will also offer personalized safety tips to residents during smoke detector installation in their homes.

To make an appointment to receive a smoke detector, please contact the Midland Fire Department at 432-685-7332.
