Two difference makers in downtown Midland were recognized for their impact by receiving top accolades during the Texas Downtown Association Presidents Awards Gala last week.

Wall Street Lofts and MODE Communications took home first place awards in Best New Construction and Best Downtown Partner, respectively.

The Best New Construction award recognizes outstanding new construction in a downtown or commercial district. Judges reported that The Wall Street Lofts made a sizable impact on downtown by adding well-designed residential units on a former empty lot.

The Best Downtown Partner award recognizes outstanding local partners that support downtown development and revitalization efforts. The judges panel said that MODE was an excellent partner with "creative ideas" and "moxie."

Since 1988, the Awards Program has recognized more than 150 projects, events, and people that make a difference in Texas downtowns. Each of the categories has two separate population divisions – under and over 50,000 residents.

Judging for the awards took place on Friday, September 16, in Austin. The jury panel included individuals representing communications, development, tourism and government.

The Texas Downtown Association, established in 1985, is an independent, statewide nonprofit organization comprised of more than 400 members involved in downtown and commercial district revitalization projects. TDA provides resources to members through networking opportunities, marketing, education and advocacy to achieve community goals. To learn more, please visit www.texasdowntown.org.
