[ARCHIVED] MPD sergeant under investigation following arrest

A Midland Police sergeant is under internal investigation after he was arrested Friday afternoon for family violence.

Sgt. Guadalupe Bretado, 43, was booked into the Midland County Jail and charged with assault/family violence (Class A misdemeanor) and interfering with an emergency call following an investigation into a disturbance.

Midland Police Department officers responded to the call at approximately 1:22 p.m. on Friday at the Sundance Creek Apartments located at 3700 North Edwards Street. The on-scene investigation led officers to believe that Bretado had assaulted his girlfriend and had interfered with her attempt to call 9-1-1 by taking her phone from her. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Bretado has been employed with the Midland Police Department for more than 16 years and is assigned to the Police Division at the Midland International Air & Space Port. He has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
