[ARCHIVED] MPD sergeant resigns amid investigation

The Midland Police Department has received the resignation of an officer who was arrested in Midland last week.

Sgt. Guadalupe Bretado, 43, resigned Monday afternoon. Bretado was arrested on Friday, Dec. 30 and charged with assault/family violence (Class A misdemeanor) and interfering with an emergency call following an investigation into a disturbance.

Midland Police Department officers responded to the call at approximately 1:22 p.m. on Friday at the Sundance Creek Apartments located at 3700 North Edwards Street. The on-scene investigation led officers to believe that Bretado had assaulted his wife and had interfered with her attempt to call 9-1-1 by taking her phone from her. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Bretado had been employed with the Midland Police Department for more than 16 years and was assigned to the Police Division at the Midland International Air & Space Port. He had been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
