The City of Midland has collected this month's sales tax revenue from the State Comptroller's Office.
The total amount of revenue received was $2,838,602. This month's figure reflects a .64 percent increase, or a $17,917 increase, from January 2016. This is the first time that a month's sales tax receipts have been higher than the same month's of the previous year since February 2015.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2016-2017 is down 8.7 percent, or a $1,070,502 decrease, from last year's totals at this time. Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $11,236,452.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; January collection is based on November sales.
