The Midland Police Department has arrested two Houston men in connection to a motor vehicle burglary that occurred shortly after the victims visited a bank.
Midland police arrested Stoney Bernard Huery Oliver, 33, and Keitatray Rayfield Broussard, 21, on Jan. 13 following a vehicle burglary where the victims were followed from the Chase Bank located at 3209 Courtyard Drive to the Walmart located on Midland Drive. Oliver and Broussard confessed to the burglary and were arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle. Both men were booked into the Midland County Jail and have been released on bond.
There have been two other reported cases in Midland relating to a recent trend of similar motor vehicle burglaries. Midland police are still looking for a male suspect who reportedly drives a black Kia Sportage who is believed to be the suspect in the two other cases. The banks that have been targeted so far have been located along major roadways in both Midland and Odessa. Similar crimes have been reported in the Dallas and Houston areas previous to the trend reaching Midland.
Detectives believe that the suspects wait in the parking lots of various banks and follow victims who have just withdrawn money to their next destination. If they park at another business, the suspects burglarize the vehicle in the parking lot and attempt to steal the money envelope. Residents visiting a bank are encouraged to place any money envelopes out of sight and to always keep the envelope and money with them at all times. Unlike the ongoing trend of criminals burglarizing unlocked vehicles, these suspects brazenly break car windows in the middle of the day to reach the envelope. Residents walking back to their vehicles after withdrawing money should always be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.
If you have any information on the unidentified suspect, please contact the Midland Crime Stoppers at 432-694-TIPS or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS.
