[ARCHIVED] MPD arrests suspect in fatal stabbing

The Midland Police Department has made an arrest in the fatal stabbing of a Midland man in the 4700 block of Boulder on Thursday.

Christopher Evans, 26, of Midland was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of 32-year-old Craig Niedecken on Thursday afternoon.

Midland Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a call at approximately 9:51 a.m. Thursday at the Kent Kwik located at the intersection of Wadley Avenue and Loop 250, where they found Niedecken with a single stab wound. He had been driven to the convenience store by an acquaintance who was nearby when the stabbing occurred and was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he declared deceased shortly after.

The investigation into the incident revealed that Niedecken and Evans knew each other and were engaged in a verbal dispute in a parking lot before the stabbing occurred. Evans turned himself over to police during the investigation.

Next of kin has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
