Midland police are warning residents of a scam that involves someone posing as an employee of the Transportation Security Administration in order to persuade individuals to send money.
The Midland Police Department has received several reports from local residents who say that the suspect contacted them by phone and said that a distant family member has been detained at the Midland International Air & Space Port by the TSA with a large amount of cash in his or her possession. The suspect proceeds to say that the recipients of the calls must pay a tax on the money in order for the family member to be released. The caller puts another person on the phone to act as the distant family member. The phone number is usually from Mexico, and the suspect requests that the money to be sent to Mexico.
Midland residents who are uncertain whether a request for money is valid are encouraged to call the Midland Police Department at 432-685-7108.
