The public is invited to a grand opening ceremony for the Midland Fire Department's newest fire station building starting at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.
Firefighters have already moved into the new Fire Station 6, which is located at 301 Tradewinds Blvd. near the southwest corner of Champions Dr. and Tradewinds Blvd.
The new station was a $4.4 million project and features three engine bays, a study, kitchen, and housing area for firefighter/paramedics. The new location on Tradewinds Boulevard allows MFD to better serve nearby areas that are include neighborhoods that are both growing and well-established. Also included in the building is a small police substation for officers who are far from the downtown police station to complete necessary duties while on shift.
"Our newest fire station building represents our ongoing efforts to provide the best service possible to residents," said Interim Fire Chief Chip Balzer.
Mid-Tex of Midland, Inc. was the contractor for the project, and Parkhill, Smith and Cooper of Midland provided design and engineering services.
