MPD's new alarm permit program makes online debut

The Midland Police Department has a new online tool to help reduce the number of false alarm activations requiring officers to respond.


Citizens are now able to apply and pay for alarm permits online and view the City of Midland’s alarm ordinance at www.famspermit.com/midland.


The Midland Police Department received 6,746 alarm calls in 2016, 82 percent of which turned out to be false alarms. Responding to false alarms creates a tremendous strain on police resources, taking officers away from actual emergencies.


The City of Midland’s code requires an alarm user to obtain a permit from MPD for $20 for each residential location and $25 for each commercial location. The permit must be renewed annually for $15 for residences and $20 for commercial locations. MPD will respond up to five false alarm calls per year with no fine, with a fee of $50 occurring for each alarm over five within a one-year period.


Online registration is being made available by PM AM, a national company that provide alarm permitting software. PM AM will notify alarm users on an annual basis to renew their permits.
