[ARCHIVED] Motorists reminded to watch for school zones

The City of Midland is reminding motorists to be on the lookout for school zones with the start of a new school year.

Classes at St. Ann's School, Midland Christian School began Monday, Midland Charter Academy, and Trinity School begin or have begun classes this week.  The first day of classes for Hillander School and Midland Independent School District will be Monday, Aug. 28.

Motorists are urged to obey the school zone signs as speed limits can vary. Speeding through a school zone can result in up to a $200 citation. Drivers are also prohibited from using handheld devices for phone calls and texting when in an active school zone.
