A crash which resulted in one fatality occurred at the intersection of Midland Drive and Illinois in the early hours of October 1st.
The victim, 24 year old Brenda Vasquez, was driving a black Chevy Cruze on Illinois facing East. As the traffic signal turned green she proceeded through the intersection. At that time, a black Chevy Silverado traveling at a high speed Southbound on Midland Drive proceeded through the intersection and struck Ms. Vasquez’s vehicle. The Silverado ultimately made impact with a nearby cinderblock fence. The driver of the Silverado was 21 year old Juan Galindo, Jr.
Police was called out to the scene at approximately 6:30 AM. The victim was declared dead upon arrival. The driver of the Silverado was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital’s trauma ward. Mr. Galindo has been arrested on warrant for intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and reckless driving and is currently being held on bond.
The Silverado was carrying one passenger, Eduardo Murillo, age 21. Mr. Murillo has been charged with public intoxication and failure to report a felony and is also being held on bond.
Investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
