The Midland Fire Department is preparing to bid farewell to a long-time employee, Captain Mike “Pooh” Winford. A reception will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the engine bay of Central Fire Station (1500 W. Wall St.).
Winford is retiring after more than 32 years with the Midland Fire Department. He was hired in August 1981 before becoming a driver in 1984 and captain in 1987.
Winford has extensive experience in HazMat situations and was one of the first captains at MFD’s first HazMat station, Station 4, in 1989. He received MFD’s Award of Commendation last year, and earned the runner up spot for the Officer of the Year Award. Besides being a firefighter master, fire service instructor II, paramedic, and HazMat transportation specialist, Winford serves as an ordained minister in the community.
The Midland Fire Department wishes Winford the best in his new endeavors. Please help us make this a special day for him.
