The City of Midland is preparing to bid farewell to a long-time employee, Transportation Manager Gary Saunders. A reception will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center (2300 Butternut Lane).
Saunders is retiring after more than 37 years with the City of Midland. He was hired in January 1977 as a traffic engineering technician before becoming a senior traffic engineering technical supervisor in 1983 and a traffic engineering coordinator in 1989. Saunders was most recently promoted to transportation manager in 2005.
Saunders participates on several boards in the Midland community including MOTOR MPO, Keep Midland Beautiful, Arts Council of Midland, Permian Basin Chapter of the Texas Public Works Association and the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Saunders will continue to play an important role at the City of Midland as a part-time traffic engineer to ensure a smooth transition after his departure. His presence and knowledge will allow the City to finish and implement recommended changes from ongoing studies to mitigate traffic congestion in Midland.
