LOST PET INFORMATION
- Come into the shelter to try to locate your pet. ONLY YOU KNOW YOUR PET!
- Look at the Lost & Found book.
- Check the list of animals that were picked up dead at the Animal Shelter.
- Check the posted lost and found ad from the newspaper.
- Check the Lost and Found column listed below. If a description comes close to your pet, call Animal Services for more details.
- When visiting, you can ask a shelter employee for a lost card to fill out and place on the bulletin board. If you have a picture of your pet, you can post it with the lost card.
- Pets arriving at the shelter without tags are kept for THREE WORKING DAYS before they are available for adoption or euthanized.
- Pets arriving with CURRENT CITY license are held for TEN DAYS and the owner is notified.
- Not all pets that leave home wearing a tag are still wearing it when they are picked up.
- You must come in person to the shelter to look for your pet. Shelter employees are not permitted to discuss untagged pets over the telephone.
- Always talk to an employee if you do not find your pet at the shelter.
TIPS
Place a lost ad in the newspaper, put posters up around your neighborhood; call any found ad that even remotely describes your pet. People often have different descriptions of the same animal. Ask your neighbors if they have seen your pet. Sometimes offering a reward is helpful, but it is wise not to specify an amount. Check the SPCA on Kerry Road at 684-7582, and the Lonestar SPCA at 683-7387.
RETURN TO OWNERS
- Owners of lost animals must visit the shelter for positive identification. Shelter employees are not permitted to discuss untagged pets over the telephone because without proper identification, we cannot positively identify your pet.
- All animals released to their owners must be vaccinated prior to release.
- All fees must be paid in full.
- Special consideration will be given to animals that are licensed prior to transport to the shelter. Animal Services Officers will make an attempt to contact and return pets to owners from information provided on a current license tag.
- Reduced fees apply to surgically altered animals.
