BUILDING INSPECTION
The Building Inspection Office has the primary responsibility to review plans and construction documents for all residential and commercial construction. The plan review process is orchestrated by the Code Administration Division, but often times may involve other Departments such as Health, Traffic, Utilities, and Fire Marshall. The plan review is performed for compliance with the various codes adopted by the City Council, including Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing, as well as various State and Federal guidelines.
The Plan Review is followed up by the Field Inspection during the actual construction to ensure compliance with the approved construction documents. The City of Midland has six inspectors to perform these inspections: two building inspectors, two electrical inspectors, and two plumbing/mechanical inspectors. The inspectors are state licensed and certified by various code authorities, and are required to participate in continuing education classes to keep updated with the ever changing construction industry. The inspectors work closely with representatives of the local utilities to make clearances for connection to those utilities.
