S.W.A.T.
SPECIAL WEAPONS AND TACTICS UNIT

Comprised of over thirty members divided into three distinct elements (Sniper / Observer, Entry and Negotiations), the Midland Police Department SWAT Team operates as a collateral duty assignment for motivated officers stationed throughout the department. Through advanced weapons and tactics training, negotiations skills and teamwork, members prepare and execute operations deemed “extremely hazardous” – requiring officers to remain in “on-call” status twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Entry Team
As with any specialized unit, selection of personnel is the key to success – demanding that applicants project only the highest level of commitment and ability throughout the evaluation process and beyond. Upon achieving assignment to one of the elements as a team member, officers are required to maintain physical fitness and firearms proficiency scores above that demanded by departmental standards.

Negotiations
Critical incidents requiring Team deployment include hostage rescue situations, barricaded suspect responses, hazardous arrest / search warrant executions and V.I.P. protection details. All SWAT Team personnel maintain instructor certifications in a variety of areas, to include Close Quarter Battle Techniques, Advanced Defensive Tactics, Specialized Firearms Proficiency / Training, Rappelling, Reconnaissance Operations, Long-Range Marksmanship, Hostage Negotiations – to name a few.
