Promotions & Career Development

The Midland Police Department encourages all eligible candidates to participate in the promotional process.  Officers who have successfully completed 4 years of service and have obtained TCLEOSE Intermediate certification are eligible to take the appropriate promotional examination.  The promotional process for Sergeant and Lieutenant consists of an examination and an assessment center.  The process for the selection of the Deputy Chiefs will be established by the Chief of Police. 

Eligible police officers will be afforded the opportunity to compete for vacancies in certain specialized areas in the Department such as: 

Investigative Services Bureau

• Detectives
• Narcotics
• Crime Against Persons/Property
• Traffic Division
• K-9
• S.W.A.T.
• Planning/Research
• Community Relations
• Directed Partol Unit
