SUPPORT SERVICES BUREAU

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

The Midland Police Department Community Relations Unit is charged with the responsibility of establishing positive communication between the Midland Community and the Police Department. While all police officers are obligated to project a positive and professional image of the department, the MPD Community Relations Unit assists and creates avenues in which to accomplish this task.

Their area of responsibility includes attending seminars, discussions, meetings, demonstrations, displays and other methods that allows them to interact with the Midland Community.

The unit is a gathering point for input from all employees in the police department and the community. This input may consist of technical assistance, expert speakers, and suggestions for improving current programs and creating additional ones.

The unit is commanded by a lieutenant and is manned by a sergeant, and three police officers, and a secretary.  Because this unit is under the Support Services Bureau, a host of other officers provide additional support.

One very popular program is the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) which has completed its 36th session. This program is designed to educate citizens on the inner workings of their police department in order to foster better relations between the citizens and the police officers. This program runs for 10 weeks, 1 evening class per week on Thursday, twice a year, free of charge.
