1) Why is Midland giving the residents the H2O West Texas 2012 Challenge?
The CRMWD has reduced Midland’s water supply by 20% because Lakes Thomas and Spence are at extremely low levels.
2) Where does Midland get its water?
The City of Midland’s primary water source is the Colorado River Municipal Water District (CRMWD). This consists of Lakes Thomas, Spence, and Ivie.
3) Why is the H2O West Texas 2012 Challenge from April to October?
The highest daily water usage for the residents of Midland is between April and October. This is primarily due to outdoor irrigation. Outdoor water usage is 60% of the City of Midland’s overall usage. The months between April and October are the peak times for outdoor water use.
4) Will this plan restrict my indoor water use?
The H2O West Texas 2012 Challenge is designed to be able to reach the 20% reduction goal by limiting outdoor use and should not impact your indoor use at all.
5) When can I water my yard?
.Outdoor watering is based on residents' physical addresses by dividing the city into even and odd numbered addresses
Even numbered addresses may water outdoors on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. until midnight.
Odd numbered addresses may water outdoors on Fridays and Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until midnight.
On your day of watering, you can water anytime from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight.
6) Are there any time of day restrictions?
For all addresses, there will be NO watering outside from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm.
7) Can I water my yard starting in the late evening and water until morning?
Based upon your address, you can water only on your designated days (refer to question 5). Your watering day starts at 6 pm on the assigned day and ends at midnight.
8) Is there a way to track the progress of the H2O West Texas 2012 Challenge?
Yes, click here to see a graph of Midland's water consumption.
9) If I see someone watering when they are not suppose to be, what do I do?
You may contact our Citizen Action Center to report any questions or concerns regarding the H2O West Texas 2012 Challenge. You can either do this online at www.midlandtexas.gov or calling (432) 685-7474.
10) Why should I participate?
Updated Water Restrictions will go into effect January 1, 2013.
