John B. Love III, elected to represent and serve as councilman for the City of Midland District 2 in 2012, graduated with honors in 1986 from Midland High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Economics.
John, who served as Mayor Pro Tem for the City Council in 2014, began his second term as council member in 2016. He is the Chairman of the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization and recently been appointed to the Governor ¬¬of the State of Texas’ Border Trade Advisory Committee. He is also Past President and current member of the Midland Space Development Corporation, Chairman of the Tall City Taskforce and is the Director of Region IV for the Texas Municipal League and serves on its state board of directors.
John was voted “Best Financial Advisor” by the public in the Midland Reporter-Telegram’s The Best of Midland in 1998 and is currently a Fee Based Financial Advisor. He holds Securities Licenses 7, 6, 63 and 65. He also holds a Group 1 Life & Health Insurance license. He is currently a wealth management advisor at Love Wealth Management.
John formerly served as chair of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission, and was the first African-American and youngest person to do so. He has held leadership positions in several professional and civic organizations, including the Midland County Fair, Inc., Goodwill Midland Advisors Board, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland, Midland Community Development Corporation, Midland Jaycees, Iota Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas and the United Supreme Council Southern Jurisdiction Prince Hall Affiliated. He is a former member of Circle of TEN (The Entrepreneurs’ Network) and remains active as a member of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society. John is currently the Grand Lecturer for the Most Illustrious Prince Hall Grand Council of Texas.
John is a life-time member of Hollowell UMC and currently a member of First United Methodist Church. He is a fourth generation Midlander.
