Midland is committed to quality education, and this commitment extends through all grade levels. The median educational level of Midlanders ranks among the highest in the country and the area's school systems consistently produce and unusually high percentage of National Merit finalists when compared with cities of equal size. 1990 marked the second consecutive year that a Midland teacher was awarded the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Award, a feat unduplicated anywhere else in the nation.

Post-secondary opportunities are available in Midland. Midland College - a level-two, comprehensive community college accredited to offer associate degrees, certificates and even a baccalaureate degree - offers over 50 fields of study, while the college's Petroleum Professional Development Center provides world-renowned, upper-level, continuing education for the petroleum industry.

Midland College was established as an independent junior college in 1972. Since its inception, the main campus has expanded and the institution overall has grown to include eight other campus extensions, including an 85,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, Advanced Technology Center, the Cogdell Learning Center that extended MC's learning and life-enhancing opportunities across the city, and the Professional Pilot and Aviation Maintenance programs at Midland's airports. The 605,536 square-feet main campus is located on 220 acres in the heart of Midland, Texas. You can visit

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB), located twenty miles away in Odessa, provides 28 areas of instruction as part of its four year degree and graduate programs. Two additional community colleges are located in Odessa and Big Spring, adding to the diversity of programs and course offerings in the area.

Vocational and technical trades are taught throughout the community colleges and several specialized educational facilities. Post-secondary institutions listen and respond to industry needs for customized training programs.
