Also, construction of sidewalks and handicap accesses on both sides of Midland Drive will take place where residential development is located.
The entire project runs from Illinois to the BI-20 frontage road and is approximately 1.38 miles.
Project completion is scheduled for mid-March (depending on the weather).
Cost of the reconstruction project is $1.6 million.
JANUARY 10th CITY COUNCIL MEETING
During a 9:00 a.m. briefing session, the City Council will discuss the City’s short and long-term water supply. Recommendations will be made by the Water Resources Committee in an effort to set out a strategy for meeting the City’s water supply for the next 50 years and beyond. The committee has met over a three-year period investigating and learning about the available supplies, the daily average and peak demands, regulations, and options with regard to water. With the completion and submittal of the well field re-evaluations, the committee had its final piece of information. Recommendations focus on decreasing demand and increasing supply. The City Council will consider naming Midland’s newest neighborhood park after a late Council Member, educator, and community leader. James M. Bradford Park will be located at 801. E. Pennsylvania in the CDBG Target Area. Bradford served on the City Council from June 2000 until his death on March 3, 2003. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board felt that naming a neighborhood park in honor of Bradford would remind citizens to continue to strive toward improving the quality of life for all Midlanders. In addition, the Council will consider approving fund raising efforts by Leadership Midland. They will attempt to raise $200,000 for the purchase of park equipment. The City Council will take a vote to move forward with plans for additional uses of the Litter Abatement Fee. As covered in a November briefing session, funds will be used to hire a “Liter Abatement Team” of two maintenance specialists who will assist with debris and tire removal, mowing, litter pickup, and large item pickup. The additional staff will help in keeping up with the high demand. Projected cost for the staff is $70,000 for salaries, benefits, and operating costs.
