WALL STREET CLOSURE

Wall Street will be closed to thru traffic between Baird Street and Loraine Street beginning 7:00 a .m. on Friday, January 20, 2006.  The closure will last approximately one-week.

Crews will be working on utility construction, waterline replacement, as part of the Wall Street reconstruction project.

The entire project will include water line replacement, replacement of concrete, curb and gutter removal, widening of sidewalks, placement of planters and landscape features, and brick pavers.  The finished product will result in two-lane traffic, one lane each direction from Big Spring to Front with a dedicated turn lane.  This will create a more pedestrian friendly downtown with the wider sidewalks providing room for outdoor cafes and eateries.

Business access will be maintained during the phase utilizing side streets.

Motorists are asked to use caution and obey all signs when traveling near the construction area.

PROMOTION

The Midland Fire Department will promote two employees to higher ranks.  A ceremony will be held on Monday, January 23, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Fire Station.

Fire Driver Trey Orozco will move to the rank of Captain.  Orozco has been with the department for 19 years.  Firefighter Raymond Caza will move to Fire Driver.  Caza has been with the department for 10 years.

The media is encouraged to attend and help make this a special day for the men and their families.
